Shooting Suspect in Custody; May Be Charged with More Crimes

Zeeshan Rashid was taken into custody early this morning at an apartment on Hickory Street.

Joliet police arrested Zeeshan Rashid today on charges he shot two men in unincorporated Will County last week and on an unrelated city charge of unlawful use of a weapon, Joliet Cmdr. Brian Benton said.

It is likely Rashid will also be charged in connection with a Joliet armed robbery that took place Sunday night and questioned as a possible suspect in a Joliet homicide that occurred Sunday morning, Benton said.

Joliet police and the Will County Sheriff's Office announced late Monday afternoon that Rashid was being sought on warrants for the double shooting and the weapons charge, and asked for the public's help in tracking him down.

Benton said police acted on a tip that they'd find Rashid in an apartment at 418 N. Hickory St. in Joliet, which is where he was taken into custody.

There was a $5,000 reward offered for anyone who help police locate Rashid, but it's not known if someone will be able to claim the money.

The county warrant charged Rashid with two counts of aggravated battery stemming from the June 13 shooting of two men standing on the rear porch of a home at 617 Algonquin, just outside the Joliet city limits. The 19-year-old victim was shot in the hand and the other man, 45, took five bullet wounds to the legs.

Joliet police also believe that Rashid was involved in an armed robbery that took place Saturday night in the 800 block of Jackson Street. They are conferring with the Will County State's Attorney's Office on possible charges, Benton said.

Police also want to speak to Rashid about the fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning. Adrian Resendiz, 18, was found deceased behind a house at 126 Baker Ave.

Benton said more information would be available later in the day.
