Joliet Ex-Con Grilled About Sunday Morning Murder Was Picked Up & Held On Felony Domestic Battery Charge

A Joliet man being held for questioning about a Mississippi Avenue murder was charged with choking and punching his girlfriend last week.

A Joliet ex-con being held for questioning in connection with the early Sunday morning murder on Mississippi Avenue was picked up on a warrant for allegedly punching and choking his girlfriend.

Donald M. Woods Jr., 19, of 315 Peale St. was picked up at 8 Mississippi Ave. eight hours after a Joliet man was found shot in an alley outside that location.

Dameon Anderson, 27, was taken from the alley to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after 3:30 a.m.

Detectives believe Anderson knew the triggerman, "but we don't know the motive yet," Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton said after the gun attack.

"It doesn't seem like a typical opposing-gang type of shooting," Benton said.

Woods was arrested on a Will County warrant charging him with aggravated domestic battery. He caught the felony case for allegedly unleashing a vicious attack on his girlfriend Thursday.

Woods showed up at the South Larkin Avenue Taco Bell where his girlfriend was working shortly before 10 p.m. and punched and choked her, police said. When Woods finished knocking his girlfriend around he took off, police said, and was located Sunday morning during the homicide investigation.

Police also hit Woods with a warrant charging he violated his parole. He was released from prison in November after serving a three-year sentence for robbery.
