Offer to Be Made to City Manager Candidate, Report Says

City officials said no announcement will be made until the candidate accepts the job and a contract is signed.

The Joliet City Council is preparing to make an offer to a new city manager, and it's one of three Chicago-area finalists.

The three candidates, all of whom were interviewed by the council Monday, are being reported by the Joliet Herald News as Jim Hock, community development director for Carpentersville and former Park Ridge village manager; Romeoville Village Manager Steve Gulden; and Christopher McFadden, an assistant U.S. attorney in Chicago and Joliet native.

McFadden was the only one to publicly confirm that he was a finalist, the paper said.

The first step in the process is to make an offer to the candidate; the second is to negotiate a contract. City officials said they would not identify the new manager until a contract is signed, the paper said.

“All the candidates were excellent candidates,” Councilman Terry Morris told the Herald News. “It was a tough choice, but it was a unanimous choice.”

Whomever gets the job will be succeeding Tom Thanas, who announced earlier this year that he would step down from the position he's held for five years once his successor has been chosen.
