Councilwoman Barber Taken to Hospital Following Monday Meeting

Barber cited health problems when announcing recently that she was stepping down from the Housing Authority of Joliet board.

Joliet City Councilwoman Susie Barber was taken to the hospital following Monday night's council meeting.

Barber was speaking but weak, Joliet City Manager Tom Thanas told the Joliet Herald News. It was decided that it would be better that she receive medical attention and that she not drive home by herself, he said.

“Considering that she had some health issues recently, we thought it better that we take some precautionary measures and have it checked out,” Thanas said.

Barber, who represents District 4, attended the whole meeting and voted on all of the matters presented.

However, she has had health issues in the past and most recently announced she was stepping down from the Housing Authority of Joliet board because her health was making it difficult to attend meetings and deal with agency issues.

There was some speculation earlier this year that Barber would also step down from the city council, but Barber said she was committed to serving out the rest of her term, which ends in 2015. She was elected to the council in 2007.
