Car Burglaries Occurring in Downtown Decks, Lots: Police

A rash of recent break-ins prompted Joliet police to issue an alert and to ask the public's help in protecting their vehicles.

The Joliet Police Department issued the following warning about burglaries occurring in downtown parking decks and lots:

There have been several burglaries from motor vehicles in the downtown Joliet parking decks and commuter parking lots. The Joliet Police Department is asking for your assistance in eliminating the opportunity for these burglaries to occur and helping in the apprehension of suspected burglars.

Following these tips will help:

  • Call 911 for all crimes in progress
  • Use the non-emergency number (815-726-2491) to report other incidents
  • Report all suspicious persons or incidents to the police
  • Lock all doors and close windows
  • Place all items of value in your trunk or glove box (out of sight)
  • If your stereo has a removable faceplate, take it with you or place it in the trunk
