Benson's Departure Leaves Joliet to Fill Two City Positions

Ben Benson was named the new City Administrator of Lockport on Wednesday night. His departure follows on the heels of Tom Thanas' resignation as Joliet's city manager.

First, Tom Thanas announced he was resigning from his position as Joliet's City Manager. Now, Joliet Assistant City Manager Ben Benson is departing, too.

Benson will take over as the new City Administrator of Lockport on Aug. 12. His contract was approved during a meeting of the Lockport city council on Wednesday night.

"It's the next progression in my career, to be the top administrator for a community," Benson said. "I am very pleased it is Lockport, to remain in a Will County community."

Before being named as Joliet's assistant city manager, Benson worked as director of marketing & communications, director of visitor services and as the council liaison for the communications and technology committee.

He and his wife, Kirsten, have two daughters and currently reside in Joliet.

"I'm excited about the continued growth potential in Lockport's downtown and the corridor between it and 355," Benson said.
