'Family is Family,' Accused Killer's Dad Says at Double Murder Hearing

But the fiancee of one of the victims was not so forgiving.

Friends and family of two men strangled to death in a Hickory Street house packed a courtroom for the alleged killers' arraignment this morning. But for the accused, only one man showed up for his child's day in court. Bill McKee, father of 18-year-old Bethany McKee, was the only one in the gallery for the two young men and two young women charged with the Hickory Street double murder. McKee watched his daughter plead not guilty, endured the insults of a grieving fiancee, and then spoke of his own pain. "It just sucks that whole families have to go through this," McKee, a Shorewood resident, said. "You can do the best job raising children, but you don't know what's going to come out. Blue, I have to agree. I can't imagine what all of the parents are going through. No matter what our children do, we love them unconditionally. I think people forget what that means at times. The parents who didn't go were most likely afraid for their lives or for the lives of their younger children. Man Chokes Girlfriend at Casino Hotel: Cops

The Chicago man attacked the woman during a fight; the victim was able to free herself and call for help, Joliet police said.

A Chicago man who attempted to strangle his girlfriend at Harrah's Joliet Casino Hotel has been charged with felony aggravated battery, Joliet police said. Florencio Juan Ruiz, 37, of 2617 S. Shields St., was taken into custody at about 4:30 a.m. by police who were called by the victim, Cmdr. Rich Demick said. The woman told Joliet police that she had gotten into an argument with Ruiz when he grabbed her by the throat and tried to choke her, Demick said. She was able to free herself by kicking and punching the suspect and then fleeing, he said. Ruiz also fled, and police "found him hiding by a heating unit" in the hotel, located at 151 N.
