Settlement Deal Offered in Civil Case For Deadly Melissa Lech Hit & Run

The civil case against a Naperville man who allegedly ran down a young woman from Joliet and then fled, leaving her to die, has a settlement agreement on the table.

The family of a 20-year-old Joliet woman left for dead on the side of McDonough Street has offered to settle a wrongful death lawsuit for $250,000. The settlement deal calls for attorneys representing the estate of University of Illinois student Melissa Lech to get $84,325.09 of the settlement. Half of the remaining $165,674.91 will go to Lech's mother, Maria Lech. Melissa Lech's two sisters, Monica and Michelle Lech, would split $82,837.45, according to court papers. Melissa Lech, a Plainfield South High School graduate, was run down on McDonough Street in August 2008. On the night of her death, she drank on the way up to a White Sox game, continued drinking at the game and on the way back to Joliet, and then headed to the Jefferson …

Police Seeking Public's Help in Fatal Hit & Run

The accident occurred Dec. 1 at William Street and Curtis Avenue in Joliet and resulted in the death of Luis Valladid.

Joliet police continue to seek information on a Dec. 1 hit-and-run accident theft a Crest Hill man dead. A bulletin was issued Friday asking the public for assistance in tracking down a small-to-midsize gray, silver or light blue vehicle with front-end damage and possibly windshield damage. The accident occurred at about 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of Curtis Avenue and William Street. Luis Valladid, 68, was struck and died two days later at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. Valladid's wife, Carmen, with whom he was walking, was not injured but reported that the driver of the hit-and-run car got out of the vehicle, looked at her husband and then left, police said. Joliet Cops Hunting Hit-And-Run Killer

A hit-and-run driver mowed down a Crest Hill man walking his dog early Saturday, leaving him mortally injured in the street.

A Crest Hill man left to die in the street by a hit-and-run driver Saturday morning clung to life but succumbed to his injuries Monday. Luis Vallaldid, 68, died at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center two days after a car ran him down near the corner of Curtis Avenue and William Street. Vallaldid and his wife, 68-year-old Carmen Vallaldid, were walking their dog about 6:45 a.m. Saturday. The Vallaldids were in the street but near the sidewalk when a smaller, gray or silver car heading east on the westbound side of the roadway hit them, said Joliet police Capt. Mike Botzum. Joliet Woman Killed in Crash on Center Street

The Joliet women's children were also injured in the Tuesday night wreck at Center and Division streets.

A Joliet woman was killed in a two-car collision on Center Street Tuesday night. Jessica Jefferies, 33, was pronounced dead in the Provena St. Joseph Medical Center emergency room at 9:18 p.m. Jefferies two children, ages 8 and 4, were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. They suffered minor injuries, police said. Jefferies T-boned a car driven by a Joliet man heading north on Center Street about 8 p.m., police said. Jefferies was driving west on Division Street and stopped for a stop sign, police said. She then either attempted to turn left or to cross Center Street, and collided with the northbound car. One Man Dead After Motorcycle Crash

The crash occurred on Briggs Street, south of Oak in Lockport Township.

A Lockport man died in a motorcycle crash Friday near the border of Joliet. Scott W. Mulac, 30, struck the back of a second motorcycle driven by James Labeau, 50, of Manhattan, on Briggs Street, a quarter mile south of Oak Street, according to a story in the Joliet Herald-News. Mulac fell off the bike and was struck by three cars, including one driven by a Joliet woman. He was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m., the story said. Joliet Man Killed in Head-on Crash

A Joliet man was killed in a head-on collision near Manhattan.

A Joliet man was killed Sunday night when he ran his pickup truck head on into another pickup on Route 52 near Manhattan, police said. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:40 p.m. crash on Route 52 south of Delaney Road, according to a statement released by the Will County Coroner's Office. Officials were withholding the man's name until he could be identified at the Will County morgue by relatives. His wife reportedly was en route Monday from Mexico to Joliet to make the identification. The statement released by Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil's office said the man's identity would be ascertained through fingerprint comparison.
