Since the 1890s, this building has housed a grocer, shoe store, dentist, theater, wine and cigar bar and jewelry store. The Department, opened in 2008, is a sleek but casual restaurant and bar featuring massive brick walls, white tablecloths, a fireplace, hardwood floors and a long bar parallel to its booth seating. The upstairs has a bar area with seating and an open view to the bar below, where there’s entertainment Fridays and Saturdays. There’s also a second-story outdoor patio for seasonal dining. The menu offers build-your-own burgers with gluten-free or regular buns, chicken pot stickers, beef tenderloin sliders, roasted pepper swordfish, Buffalo chicken sandwich, grilled mahi mahi sandwich and shrimp tacos.

Great atmosphere, feels like you are downtown in the city. Good entertainment and awesome food options for both adults and kids. Also great for businesses looking to host something or entertain customers.
This is one of my favorite date night restaurants! The atmosphere is gently upscale. The food fantastic and I always see someone I know there. Try the Departini for a fun summer drink and the Calamari for an appetizer. Love sitting out on the deck also!
Even if they did not have the best martinis in Joliet I would give this place 5 stars. The atmosphere is classy and comfortable, food is priced reasonably and prepared well and the service was great. Give this place a try!
