Watch the Lincoln Park Zoo Light Up on Friday

ZooLights, a free day at the Chicago Children's Museum and the Art Institute gets its holiday makeover in this week's '3 Things To Do Downtown.'

Every year the Lincoln Park Zoo becomes a festive, sparkly holiday destination with its “ZooLights,” Two million bulbs, some in the form of giant, illuminated animals, are on display Friday through Sunday evenings starting this week. Be there at 4:55 p.m. on Friday when they’ll be switched on. The first 900 guests at the zoo each night get special glasses to see some 3D displays. The lights are on from 5-9 p.m.

If you’re looking for a daylight iconic holiday event, head to the Art Institute Friday morning at 10 a.m. to see the stately lions get their annual holiday wreathes put on. Then, head inside with your kids to create holiday wreaths decorated with drawings of your family and its holiday traditions.
