La Adelita Ay ay ay! (Plainfield)

I am certainly a big fan of Mexican food. In fact while pregnant I ate at this particular restaurant several times a week. I would find myself craving their chicken tacos.  Now, not so much… Let me first start with what La Adelita means/is because I find that quite interesting.  "La Adelita is one of the most famous and representative ballads of the Mexican Revolution. It was composed in honor of all the women who participated in the revolutionary war.  Since then an Adelita has come to signify a woman soldier, or soldadera, as well as a brave woman." (2012, Inside Mexico). So kudos to women power, loving that! I digress lol La Adelita is located in Plainfield @ 15732 Route 59. While driving up to the restaurant you can clearly tell this building was perhaps once a Wendy's restaurant. They have made some updates, but the outside is quite drab and tattered especially the drive thru area.  However, I must admit it's pretty cool that they have a drive thru.  Once entering the restaurant it does have great traditional Mexican décor and somewhat of a homey feel.  The staff is inviting and attentive.  The food arrives hot and the portion size is okay.  The food was initially delicious, but something changed over the last 2 years.  The chicken used to be finely shredded and spicy but now it's cut in to large chunks and the flavor has changed as well.  The rice has also changed, it is now dried out and once when I ordered was pretty much al dente.  My favorite item here that hasn't changed is the salsa.  It's rich tomato and garlic flavor is quite addictive.  Although the salsa's texture is thin, it's packed with so much flavor and there is a kick that sneaks up on you. I really enjoy their salsa and now when/if I go that's the only thing I order.  Overall it's not the worst, but certainly not the best Mexican restaurant around.  I hope they are not sacrificing flavor to compete with chain Mexican restaurants.  La Adelita uphold your significant name and please bring back your originally authentic Mexican food; if I wanted Chipotle I would have easily gone there.  I currently give them 3 forks up.  🍴🍴🍴 What's your favorite Mexican restaurant in Will County?
