Chicken-n-Spice wasn't all things nice (Joliet)

I typically check out different sites or get recommendations from people while trying new restaurants.  After reading so many positive reviews on Yelp, Chicken-n-Spice was certainly on my list of places to try.  Its pretty much in the heart of downtown Joliet which is quite beautiful.  The night I visited the restaurant there was a homeless man laying on the ground across the street from the restaurant.   If I was by myself I would have stayed in my car & ate elsewhere, but since I wasn't alone I jump at the opportunity to taste this raved reviewed chicken.  The restaurant closes at 10 PM and it was roughly 8:30; however, the chairs were stacked on the tables and there were quite a few employees within the restaurant cleaning, mopping, etc.  The smell that hit me when I walked in was a smell of old grease.  We weren't greeted friendly in fact the young kid at the register just stood there as if I had eaten there numerous times and was a regular customer.  After placing my order (6 chicken breast chunks & an order of chicken wings) I was shocked to be handed my order in about 1 minute.  The food wasn't made to order so in my mind since it wasn't fresh it wouldn't be good.  Boy was I right :(. I'll describe my food.  The chicken chunks looked to be fried perfectly, they had a nice golden crisp crust on them, but as expected they tasted as if they were fried in old grease and had no real flavor.  The chicken wings were fried pretty hard and were much like the chicken chunks, lacking flavor.  I can say, the biscuit was delicious and very much like Popeyes' biscuits buttery and flaky. I can certainly eat 4-5 of these biscuits easily.  Perhaps I caught them on a bad night, but I won't be trying them again. Unfortunately it takes more than a good biscuit to get me to return.  The customer service is bad and their staple product was premade and fried in old grease.  Also I don't understand how they could be called Chicken-n-Spice and there was absolutely no spice. I'm not too sure I will be able to trust Yelp reviews again LOL but try them for yourself they're located at 251 North Chicago St., Joliet, IL.  Make sure to get a biscuit for me!  I give them 1 fork up! 🍴

P.S.  I have just had a change of heart, if 5 people convince me to try them again I will.  I usually don't return a 2nd time if I'm not pleased the 1st time, but I'm thinking my 1st visit had to be a fluke.
