Miles Nielsen & the Rusted Hearts headline Hopstring Fest Aug. 24 in Joliet

Hopstring Fest is almost here! The celebration of craft beer and live Americana music is from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Silver Cross Field, the city's ballpark at 1 Mayor Art Schultz Drive in downtown Joliet. Tickets are only $20 each at available at the door or Chicago Street Pub, 75 N. Chicago St.

Entertainment includes Miles Nielsen and The Rusted Hearts, The Steepwater Band, John Condron and the Old Gang Orchestra, The Righteous Hillbillies, Magic Box, Chicago Farmer, Ed Anderson, The Regressors and Paige and the Reverent Few. On an acoustic side stage there will be performances by Alex Hoffer, Chris Flood, Tom & Becky, Chris Corkery, Matt Biskie, Villains Company and Allison Moroni Flood.

Nielsen is the son of Cheap Trick guitarist and founder Rick Nielsen. Born in Rockford, he spent 13 years playing bars, clubs and theaters as a vocalist and lead guitarist in such Midwestern bands as Harmony Riley, HMS and Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons. When time permits, he performs as his own band, Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts.

Aside from opening for acts such as Medeski, Martin & Wood, Cake and Moe, Nielsen also co-owns a recording studio in Rockford, FUSE, that has served as the recording home to Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons.
