First Cruise Night of the Season Set for Tonight

Classic cars will be lined up along Chicago Street, and special events -- including a dunk tank and 50/50 raffle -- will be held.

Heads up, car enthusiasts: The first Joliet Cruise Night of the summer is Thursday night along downtown Chicago Street.

The 6 to 9 p.m. display of classic cars is an annual ritual held on the third Thursday of the month in July, July and August.

Music from the 1950s and '60s will be played, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is sponsoring a dunk tank, and there will be a 50/50 raffle, with proceeds benefitting the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Several downtown restaurants, including The Red Goose, Chicago Street Pub, The Department Restaurant & Liquor Lounge, Chicken and Spice, Thayer’s 158 North and , will be open and serving special menu items tied to the event. Gji's Sweet Shoppe will also be open.

Classic cars should arrive prior to the 6 p.m. event start time and drivers should look for spotters to direct them to parking locations. Check-in will be at the intersection of Clinton and Chicago streets. Enter off Ottawa and Scott streets.
