Rachelle deserves this honor because she is not only a superb athlete, but also a gifted student that excels in the classroom and a genuinely caring and kind person.

J Hostert: I agree it's worth measuring an individual's whole package before casting a ballot. All the candidates here are deserving. Thanks for your comments.

Kevin Duchene pitched incredibly all year ! Un hitable! The best season by a pitcher I have ever seen.
Ron Kremer (Editor) June 05, 2012 at 05:11 PM
Phil: Yep, Kevin was 8-0 with a 0.13 ERA. He allowed one earned run in 52 innings.

Matt Mammo Mammoser for not only playing great football but for being a great kid and never giving up even when facing his own mortality. What a great example he has left for all high school athletes to follow!
Chris Pool June 06, 2012 at 12:27 PM
We have never seen a football player as talented as Ty Isaac in this area or for this state for that matter and may not ever see another one like him. He's got my vote.

Matt Koran, three sport all conference and great in the class. I mean he's going to Harvard but to excell in not one but three sports? Seems clear to me.
Ron Kremer (Editor) June 06, 2012 at 06:51 PM
Tim: Matt earned all-conference honors for six straight seasons in three sports and he's headed to Harvard, too! I agree he is an exceptional candidate. Thanks for your comments.
Ron Kremer (Editor) June 06, 2012 at 06:51 PM
Chris: How do you think Ty Isaac will fare at USC playing against a Pac-12 schedule? Do you picture him piling up big numbers for the Trojans? Playing in the NFL one day?

I vote Curtis Parker. What a great well rounded young man. Two sports and honor society. On his way to Steven point Wisconsin for college on a scholarship.

matt koran all the way! I do have a question though; how come there wasn't any cheerleaders nominated?
Sassyone2 June 06, 2012 at 09:56 PM
Yeah! Matt Koran is Awesome.
Sassyone2 June 06, 2012 at 09:57 PM
Yeah! Matt Koran is Awesome. I cant argue.
Mr. Joliet June 07, 2012 at 03:09 AM
Matt Koran is Joliet's truest athlete! He's the all around student athlete. In an age when you don't see the multi-sport athlete, he's excelled in all 3 sports he's chosen to participate in. He not only excelled but is a 7 time all conference athlete in Football (in the toughest conference), Wrestling (where he placed 5th in state), and baseball (where he hit .330 6 HR's 17 doubles and stole 17 bases). All this done while still maintaining a 4.46 GPA and heading to Harvard. He's also a very well spoken modest young man who gives and gives. He's volunteered for the miracle league for 4 years now and is heading to Haiti at the end of this month. My vote goes to Mr. Matt Koran! Good Luck @ Harvard!!

Can't get a better candidate than Matt Koran with all his honors, accomplishments and athletic excellence. He excels in everything he does due to his dedication, commitment and hard work. He is an outstanding example of a fine young man, student and all star Athelete in baseball, football and wrestling, and still maintained a 4.46 GPA. What a well-rounded student, who takes such pride in his school and who is thankful to all his coaches/teachers for their guidance. Matt is a kind, considerate, respectful and loving young man and would be a perfect candidate to represent Joliet's Athelete of the Year.

Matt is an outstanding student and has the passion for doing his best in everything that he does. Good luck in being the next Joliet Athlete of the Year! C. Kofoid
Andy Harris June 08, 2012 at 01:09 AM
Let's not forget about CALVIN EDWARDS. He ran 8 races at state and still was able to get 2nd in the 100m and 200m. This is an incredible senior athlete.

Why is voting closed? :( Rachelle should win! She is the most compassionate, intelligent, selfless person that I know. Her drive, fortitude, and passion for life make Rachelle the ideal Joliet Athlete of the Year.
Karen Sorensen (Editor) June 08, 2012 at 01:44 AM
My apologies -- our computer format, for some unknown reason, has gone to Eastern time. There remains 15 minutes to vote in the poll. The results will go up later tonight. May, if I don't hear from you, I will add your vote for Rachelle.
Sports Hawk June 08, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Matt Koran. Just on paper he is deserving. Add the extracurriculars, and it's a lock.
Bob Rucka June 08, 2012 at 03:15 PM
Matt Koran, Hi Ron, Simply the best student athlete I have seen come through West and work with in my time here. Great character and work ethic! B. Rucka
Teresa McBride June 11, 2012 at 01:29 PM
