What Else is in the Affordable Care Act?

Defines Medicare Drug Discounts in the Affordable Care Act.

What follows is one of a series of facts on what is included in the Affordable Care Act. Readers can come to their own conclusions as to the value of the rule and whether the rule should or should not be part of our country’s health care system.

Medicare Drug Discounts

The Affordable Care Act includes benefits to make your Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) more affordable. It does this by gradually closing the gap in drug coverage known as the "Donut Hole."

What This Means for You:

Starting January 1, 2011, if you reach the coverage gap in your Medicare Part D coverage, you will automatically get a 50% discount on covered brand-name drugs. You receive the discount when you buy them at a pharmacy or order them through the mail, until you reach the catastrophic coverage

  • You will also get a 7% discount on generic drugs while in the Donut Hole.
  • You can expect additional savings on your covered brand-name and generic drugs while in the coverage gap until the gap is closed in 2020.

Status of rule: In effect as of January 1, 2011

Bob, the one thing you have shown me is that old people, while dangerous behind the wheel, still do have a purpose. Thank you for making me laugh at you everyday.

Please Chronicles don't make assumption about old people or Bob. I'm guessing I am considerably older than Bob but my mindset is far more open. I don't believe our president is a socialist, a communist, a facist nor a nazi. I believe the majority of us boomers want to leave our children and grandchildren a future where they have medical care even if they have lost thier job and insurance. I know, for a fact, that a sick child can easily consume $850,000 in medical insurance by the time they are 3 years old, leaving their parents to fear one more hospitization may result in the sale of their home to cover the bills. I also believe that the same child should not be denied medical coverage because of a pre-existing condition. This so called "Obamacare" is not the be all and end all. It is a start to an undeniably overwhelming out of control cost of healthcare. It is a work in progress and will undoubtedly be tweaked as the years go by. The old system was unsustainable. This is a start. As far as Bob goes, he is obvioiusly a younger man who has never held the dirty end of the stick, someday when he stands on his own, out from his parents home he will be faced with the real world.

Get it all out in the open.. Naming % is a shell game.. There is no futures market on prescription drugs No variables it is what it is... And if the reduced cost price is triple of that in a third world apple to apple Wake up.. Non partsian is the only way i will look at it.. and the idea more people to carry the burden of the Hospital freeloader is not appealing Niether is the thought of compounding the free ride by price gouging... If the cost can be explained i am just another ranter

Sorry Frank (Sincerely ). I guess i should have clarified. The term "old people" is code for: bonehead, sexist, know-it-alls, who degrade anyones thought or opinion that isnt in line with their own and then hide behind their im smarter than you attitude because the facts i use are the real ones. i just figured that was to difficult to write everytime while referring to you bob.
