Daniel Golden, MD, joins U of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross

Golden is a specialist in the use of radiation-therapy to treat cancers of the central nervous system, head and neck, gastrointestinal tract, and genitourinary system.

Daniel W. Golden, MD, a specialist in the use of radiation-therapy to treat cancers of the central nervous system, head and neck, gastrointestinal tract, and genitourinary system, has joined the cancer care team at the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

The $21.6 million, 20,000-square-foot outpatient cancer-treatment center, which opened June 2012 on Silver Cross Hospital's campus, brings the expertise of University of Chicago Medicine cancer specialists and easy access to advanced and investigational therapies to a convenient community hospital setting. Dr. Golden joins Anne McCall, M.D., Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Silver Cross Hospital.  Using the TrueBeam new-generation linear accelerator system, more than 300 patients received image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) at the Cancer Center in the past year.  IGRT precisely targets the tumor from nearly any direction to provide the best results.

The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center maintains more active clinical trials for the treatment of cancer than any other program in Illinois. Radiation therapy, as well as access to innovative clinical trials, is vital to the treatment of a range of cancers.

A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, Golden, 32, completed his residency in radiation oncology and a fellowship in medical education at the University of Chicago. He joined the University of Chicago faculty as an assistant professor of radiation and cellular oncology in 2013.

The co-author of more than 40 publications and scientific abstracts on the clinical applications of radiation therapy, Golden has received honors for his research and his dedication to teaching medical students. He is also a Level 3 alpine ski instructor, the highest certification offered by the Professional Ski Instructors of America, and is certified as an open-water SCUBA diver by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.
