Submitted by Joliet Township High School District:

Joliet Central High School English Teacher Ashley Samsa’s article, “The Gentle Catalyst," has been selected for publication in Teaching Tolerance, an award-winning online and print magazine dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving intergroup relations and supporting equitable school experiences.

In her article, Samsa describes three practical approaches to addressing the issue of privilege in diverse classrooms. She draws examples from fellow JTHS teachers and other colleagues’ teaching styles. Samsa’s feature article will be printed in the spring 2014 edition of Teaching Tolerance and is available online.

"I'm very excited that Teaching Tolerance has given me the space to discuss the important issues of privilege and diversity in education," said Samsa.
