Elementary-aged children need encouragement and planning from home to succeed.

It's been just over a month since students in Joliet Elementary District 86 returned to school. And while they are getting used to being in the classroom again, and parents are getting used to homework time, officials in district 86 have the following top ten tips to help kids succeed in school.

 

  1. Make sure children get a good night's sleep
  2. Have children eat a healthy breakfast
  3. Come to school on time
  4. Make sure school has the correct emergency telephone numbers
  5. Ask questions in class
  6. Students need to do their best every day
  7. Have children read at least 20 minutes daily
  8. Designate a homework area at home
  9. Communicate with child's teacher if there are any questions
  10. Sign up and check parent portal (District 86 system for student's grades, attendance, homework assignments)
