Joliet Park Board Seeks Input on Proposed Tax Hike

The park district has sent mail-in surveys to residents and will hold two special meetings this week.

The Joliet Park District Board will hold special sessions on Tuesday and Thursday to gauge residents' feelings on a proposed tax increase to pay for park improvements.

The projects include improving roads and security at Pilcher Park and renovating more than two dozen playgrounds, as well as replacing trees destroyed by the emerald ash borer.

The meetings are set for 5 p.m. Tuesday in Conference Room A, Presence Inwood Athletic Club, 3000 W. Jefferson St.; and 7 p.m. Thursday in the city council chambers at Joliet City Hall, 150 W. Jefferson St.

The park district also sent an informational packet to residents that includes a mail-in survey. The survey results will help the park district determine how much funding to seek on a possible bond referendum, Executive Director Dominick Egizio told the Herald-News. The referendum could come as soon as the Nov. 4 election.

According to Egizio, the park district's entire "wish list" of projects would cost around $20.9 million.
