Joliet Chooses Planner for Downtown Redevelopment

The city will spend $125,000 on the Downtown Plan.

A Chicago company will help reshape downtown Joliet's future.

Joliet's city council approved a $125,000 contract with Camiros to help plan a downtown redevelopment, according to WJOL.

Camiros was one of six finalists to present their vision for the city's future during an event at the Joliet Historical Museum in January.

City Manager Jim Hock told WJOL it will take seven to nine months to get the Downtown Plan together. The plan will focus on economic development, an inventory of existing buildings and uses, and improving pedestrian, bike, and vehicular linkages.

Hock said the project is being funded by $50,000 from the Joliet City Center Partnership and $75,000 from an established downtown tax increment financing (TIF) district.

As the plan progresses, residents will have the chance to share their ideas at public input sessions.

What kind of development would you like to see in downtown Joliet?
