A Tennessee man who decided to settle a "you're not the boss of me" fight with a co-worker using a claw hammer was charged Monday with aggravated battery, Joliet police said.
James C. Clements, 33, of Lawrenceburg, and his co-worker were in Joliet to do contract work helping people repair flood damage and had been staying at the Ramada Limited motel at 1520 Commerce Lane, Cmdr. Brian Benton said.
The pair, who work for the same company, had been out drinking and got into a fight over who was in charge of the other, Benton said. When they returned to their room, Clements went out to his vehicle to retrieve a hammer and attacked the victim with it, he said.
The co-worker was able to flee and call police. Both men were treated for multiple lacerations at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, and then Clements was taken into police custody, Benton said.
Clements is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $40,000 bond.
