Woman Killed in Joliet Car Crash, State Police Say

Four other people were injured in the collision, which occurred Saturday morning at Route 53 and Louis Road.

An unidentified 74-year-old woman from Lockport was killed Saturday morning in an accident at the intersection of Illinois 53 and Louis Road in Joliet, the Illinois State Police said.

The collision occurred at about 9:20 a.m., when the victim -- who was driving a Mercury Sable westbound on Louis Road -- attempted to cross the intersection and was struck by a male driver, whose Chevrolet Tahoe SUV was northbound on Route 53/Chicago Street, according to a news release issued by the state police.

The SUV hit the woman's car on the driver's side, the release said. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the male driver and three passengers were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The extent of those injuries was not included in the release.

The crash is under investigation.
