Wilmington Ambulance Crashes in Joliet Township, Injuring Three

Blown tire sends vehicle into ditch Tuesday morning.

A patient and two emergency workers were injured when a Wilmington Fire Protection District ambulance blew a tire, causing it to wind up in a ditch, Will County Sheriff's police said Tuesday.

The incident happened at around 9:45 a.m. on Laraway Road west of Route 52, according to sheriff's department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer. She said the ambulance was transporting a patient to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

The patient, along with the driver of the ambulance and another paramedic, were taken to Silver Cross following the crash, police said.

Hoffmeyer said she could not disclose why the patient was being taken to the hospital in the first place, but said none of the three was seriously hurt in the crash.
