Two People Shot at Party in Joliet: Police

One victim suffered a life-threatening head wound, police said.

Two people were shot as a party broke up early Sunday in Joliet, police said.

Police Chief Brian Benton said one victim, a 25-year-old man, suffered a life-threatening head wound during what he described as "large party" in the 100 block of Charity Avenue. The man was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center before being transferred to Loyola, Benton said.

A 21-year-old man was also shot in the thigh and was taken to St. Joe's, according to Benton.

Benton said officers responded to a report of a subject shot as the party broke up at around 1:30 a.m.

When police arrived, they learned that a victim had been shot in the head, but had already been brought to the hospital by friends.

Benton said the second victim, who was shot in the thigh, was also brought in to St. Joe's and told police he had been shot at the same party.

Detectives are interviewing party-goers, but Benton said it's too early to say what the motive for the double shooting may have been.

He said no one has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
