Two Men Shot Thursday in 2nd Shooting This Week; Arrest Made

Joliet police said they do not believe the early morning gun attack is related to shooting that occurred outside a food store Tuesday night.

Joliet police have arrested a suspect believed to have shot two men early early Thursday morning as they walked in the area of Des Plaines and Monroe streets, Lt. Brian Dupuis said.

Michael J. Frazier, 31, of 110 Nicholson St., was booked into the Will County jail shortly after noon Thursday and charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

It's believed Frazier is one of several men who followed the two victims and opened fire, striking one in the elbow and the other in the lower torso and calf, Dupuis said. Both were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims were able to identify Frazier as one of the suspects who shot them, and it's possible more arrests may be forthcoming, Dupuis said.

It is not believed the shooting is related to or in retaliation for a similar shooting that occurred at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, he said. In that case, two men were leaving the Adam & Joe Food Mart near 2nd Avenue and Richards Street and shot twice by people in a passing vehicle, reports said.

The injuries were not life-threatening, and there have been no arrests made in the case.

Frazier, who is being held in the Will County jail pending in Friday bond hearing, has been arrested three times this year on charges of criminal trespass to property in August, domestic battery in July and possession of 10 to 30 grams of cannabis in January, according to Will County Circuit Clerk records.

Those records also show a criminal past dating back to 1999 on charges that include aggravated battery, narcotics possession and criminal trespass.
