Two Hurt in Semi Vs. Car Crash Near Joliet Intermodal Center

One person had to be airlifted following the Thursday morning crash, police said.

Two people were seriously injured in a crash Thursday morning near Joliet's CenterPoint Intermodal Center, police said.

Cmdr. Al Roechner said at around 6:30 a.m., a passenger vehicle heading north on Centerpoint Way near the entrance of the intermodal center crossed into the oncoming lane and was struck by a southbound semi-trailer.

"The semi T-boned the vehicle and pushed it off the road and into a tree," Roechner said.

The driver and a passenger in the vehicle, both males, were transported to area hospitals. Roechner said the backseat passenger had to be airlifted from the scene. As of early Thursday afternoon, Roechner said he did not have information on the ages of the victims or their condition.

The driver of the semi was not hurt in the crash, according to police.

As of around noon, Centerpoint Way was still closed to southbound traffic as accident reconstruction crews investigated the crash site.

Roechner said the entrance of CenterPoint remained open to truck traffic.
