Truck Driver Charged In I-55 Crash That Killed 4

Two of the victims were from Channahon and Coal City.

The driver of the speeding truck that slammed into stopped construction traffic on I-55 Monday was charged, according to ABC 7 News reports.

The driver, Francisco Espinal-Quiroz, 51, is due in bond court Tuesday morning on charges of felony logbook violations, traffic violations and failure to reduce speed, Illinois State Police said.

Four females, including 11-year-old Piper Britton, 11, of Urbana, were killed in a chain reaction crash that occured around 2:16 p.m. The others who died were Kimberly K. Britton, 43, of Urbana; Vicky L. Palacios, 54, of Coal City; and Ulrike P. Blopleh, 48, of Channahon.

The vehicles involved in that crash were heading northbound near Arsenal Road. In an unrelated crash in the southbound lane, two semi trucks were involved in a rear-end collision, Cmdr. Randy Ness said in a press conference Monday night. Both were transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital, and one died.
