Traffic Stop Prompts Man to Flee Police

Steven Manos was wanted on warrants, and apparently decided to take off as a Joliet officer was returning to his squad to write a ticket and check his record, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

A Lockport man pulled over by Joliet police on a traffic stop gave the officer his driver's license and then stepped on the gas in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest, Joliet Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

Steven C. Manos, 24, of 513 N. Reef, was stopped in the 1300 block of West Jefferson Street on Dec. 29, Demick said.

However, he must have realized that he was in for more than a traffic citation given that there were outstanding warrants on a felony theft charge and for failure to attend a court hearing, Demick said. His arrest would trigger a violation of his parole on a previous case, he said.

Manos was stopped by Joliet police just a few blocks away at May and John streets, at which point he exited his car and made a run for it. Police were able to quickly apprehend him, Demick said.

Manos was wanted on a warrant charging him with felony theft of $500 to $10,000, according to Will County jail records. He was arrested in August on four other counts of felony theft with a firearm.
