Teen Loses Toe in Rollover Crash on Infantry, Police Say
A 15-year-old passenger had his right big toe amputated in the crash; the car's driver has been charged with aggravated reckless driving, Joliet police said.
A 15-year-old boy had his big toe amputated in a rollover accident Thursday night on Infantry Drive, between Jefferson and McDonough streets, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.
He was one of five people in a 2007 Pontiac G6 that was being driven by Denzel Leslie, 18, of Joliet, who was charged with aggravated reckless driving, Roechner said.
Leslie was headed southbound on Infantry at about 6:10 p.m. when he began playing behind the wheel, turning the wheel back and forth, the car passengers told police. He eventually lost control, striking a tree and causing the car to over, Roechner said.
All of the occupants -- ranging in age from 12 to 18 -- had to be extricated from the vehicle and were transported to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, where Leslie remains, he said. The 15-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the back seat, lost his right big toe in the accident, he said.
There is no indication that alcohol played a role in the crash, according to reports, Roechner said.
