Slasher to Cops: 'I Killed My Baby Mama,' Says Prosecutor

A Joliet man charged with slashing and stabbing his girlfriend so severely she may lose an arm heard voices in his head, was shaking and had a "crazy look in his eye" just before the attack, a prosecutor said during a Monday afternoon bond hearing.

Antonio Lawrence, 23, also boasted to cops, "I killed my baby mama," after turning up shirtless at the police station with a knife jammed blade-up in a pants pocket, Will County Assistant State's Attorney David Borenstein said.

The 20-year-old mother of Lawrence's children actually wasn't dead but was gravely wounded.

Police called to her Evergreen Terrace home early Monday found her slumped in front of her door, Borenstein said. She was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center where she was treated for 10 stab wounds to her face and body, he said, including one that may reportedly end up costing her an arm.

The young woman was able to tell police that she and Lawrence, whom she lives with, were asleep but woke to the telephone ringing, Borenstein said. Lawrence asked her for a cigarette, he said, but his girlfriend didn't have one. Lawrence then asked the woman where she keeps the knives, Borentstein said.

Lawrence apparently managed to find a knife, and that was when he got the "crazy look in his eye" and started stabbing his girlfriend in the face, Borenstein said.

When questioned by officers, Lawrence told them "this was the first person he tried to kill and he didn't have a reason to kill," Borenstein said.

He also told police he was "waiting for members of law enforcement to let their guard down so he could kill one of them and get the death penalty," Borenstein said.

Will County Judge Roger Rickmon set Lawrence's bond at $2 million. Judge Rickmon also appointed the public defender's office to Lawrence's case after a seemingly less-than-responsive Daniels did not complete an affidavit of his assets and liabilities.

"Mr. Lawrence is not in a condition to fill it out," the judge said.
