Saturday in the Park With Donovan & Isaiah & a Gun: Police

The two men decided to shoot a gun while walking through a park near Ingalls Avenue, police said.

Two men fired a gun while strolling through a park near Ingalls Avenue Saturday night, police said.

Donovan Ivery, 19, of 1215 Cedarwood Drive in Crest Hill and Isaiah Smith, 18, of 2417 Black Road in Joliet both were charged with the aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of ammunition without a firearm owner's identification card, possession of a firearm without an owner's identification card, reckless discharge of a firearm, and criminal trespass to state supported land in connection with the 11 p.m. incident.

An off-duty Joliet police officer reportedly heard shots fired and called in to the department. On-duty officers arrived and spotted Ivery and Smith in the park, police said.

Ivery was reportedly standing behind a garbage can. When an officer told him to put his hands up, police said, a .357 handgun fell to the ground.

Smith reportedly told police they had been walking through the park when they decided to shoot a gun Ivery brought along.

Ivery and Smith were both booked into the Will County jail.
