Private Lie? Joliet Cops Say Phony Frankfort Detective Nabbed

A Frankfort man claiming to be working as a private detective for the City of Joliet was jailed by actual detectives working for the City of Joliet.

A man claiming to be a private eye in the employ of the City of Joliet turned out to be a fraud with forged credentials, police said.

Ryan Krusinger, 22, of 11759 Azure Drive in Frankfort was arrested and jailed about 10 a.m. Tuesday after a run-in with police outside the Will County Courthouse.

Krusinger's black Dodge Charger was parked illegally—and about three feet away from the curb—and an officer pulled over to write him a ticket, police said. But when the officer took a closer look, he reportedly noticed the Charger was outfitted with police lights.

That was about the time Krusinger emerged from the courthouse. He walked up to his car and the officer with a pistol strapped to his hip and a badge identifying him as a detective with "Kruz Investigations" hanging around his neck, police said.

Krusinger was also carrying a switchblade in his pocket, police said.

Krusinger reportedly showed the officer a license to carry the gun while working as an investigator. He also produced paperwork showing he was paid to be a process server for the City of Joliet and that the town had provided him with a police vehicle to do his job.

Joliet police Cmdr. Al Roechner said Krusinger's paperwork, which bore the signature of a city legal secretary, was forged.

Despite the allegedly phony paperwork, Krusinger has in fact been serving papers for the city, Roechner said. Detectives also reportedly confirmed that Krusinger had at one time worked for a private investigation company run by a Wilmington police officer, but the Wilmington cop told Joliet's officers he had fired Krusinger, Roechner said.

Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation records show Krusinger holds licenses for firearms control, firearms training, and to work under the license of an actual private investigator.

A search of Krusinger's car turned up two more handguns and forged credentials identifying Krusinger as a city employee, police said.

Krusinger was booked into the county jail on charges of forgery and unlawful use of a weapon. Roechner said detectives are exploring the possibility of bringing even more charges against Krusinger.

"He's definitely a serial liar," Roechner said.
