Two men who ditched stolen guns as they fled from Joliet police were arrested Saturday night.
The Joliet tactical unit was in the process of executing a search warrant at the 1212 Luther Ave. home of Jamonni D. Anderson when Anderson pulled up outside, Joliet Cmdr. Rich Demick said. When police tried to do a traffic stop to pull him over, Anderson instead drove off and police were forced to chase him, Demick said.
Anderson, 18, made it as far as the corner of Charlesworth and Ewing avenues before he and his passenger, Shadon Dwayne McDonald, 19, abandoned the car and took off on foot, he said.
Police observed both men throw away firearms as they ran, one in a garbage can and the other along the side of a house, Demick said. After they were captured, police went back to retrieve the weapons.
Anderson and McDonald, of 202 Fairmont, Lockport, face charges of possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possessing a firearm without a valid FOID card and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. Anderson was also charged with possession of a firearm as a gang member.
Both are being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $35,000 bond.
According to jail records, this is the second time this year that McDonald's been arrested for having a stolen firearm. In the earlier case, he was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm/under the age of 18 and possessing a firearm with an expired FOID card.
