Man Shot in Shoulder by Unknown Drive-by Attacker, Police Say

The victim, whose identity has not been released, survived the shooting, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office, which is handling the investigation.

A Joliet-area man walking on Copperfield Avenue near Mohawk Street was shot in the shoulder by a drive-by assailant late Monday morning, Will County Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said.

The shooting took place at about 11:05 a.m. as the 32-year-old man was walking in the Ridgewood neighborhood where he lives, he said. Kaupas said he did not know how many shots were fired but that only one bullet struck the victim.

The Will County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation, and is working on "several possible motives" for the attack, Kaupas said. Because they have several leads, investigators are not releasing the victim's name or any information on the suspect and/or his vehicle, he said.

The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital by the East Joliet Fire Department for treatment of a non-life-threatening wound, Kaupas said. He could be released as soon as tonight, he said.
