No Injuries in Two Shootings a Few Blocks Apart, Police Say

The initial investigation doesn't show a link between the two incidents, Joliet Police Capt. Les O'Connor said.

Joliet police are investigating two overnight shootings that occurred about four blocks and less than an hour apart, but aren't believed to be related, Capt. Les O'Connor said.

The first occurred at about 12:25 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of North Broadway Street, outside the Evergreen Terrace housing complex, O'Connor said. Based on the initial investigation, it appears that people in two cars were shooting at each other in close proximity to the complex's guard booth, he said.

The booth took several hits but no one was injured as far as police know, O'Connor said.

In the second incident, an unknown person or persons fired several shots at two residences in the 300 block of Pine Street at about 1:10 a.m., he said. Both structures were hit by at least one bullet but, again, no one was reported injured.

Police recovered a gun on the ground at the Pine Street scene that's believed to have been used in the latter shooting, O'Connor said. They also brought a man in for questioning about the situation but released him without charges, he said.

Both locations are located off Western Avenue on the city's west side, not far from the Des Plaines River.
