No Backsies—Bandit Tries Returning Stolen Phone and Wallet When He Sees Someone Call Cops: Police

The perp still had to go to jail, police said.

A mugger had a change of heart when he saw somebody calling the cops on him and tried to give back the wallet and cell phone he stole from a man outside the South Chicago Street Dunkin' Donuts, police said.

Kenneth Harris, 33, of 1211 Arthur Ave. was charged with attempted strong arm robbery and criminal trespass to a motor vehicle in connection with the 10 p.m. Sunday incident.

Harris allegedly accosted a man getting out of his car in the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot.

Harris told the man, "This is a stickup, give me what you got," police said, and the man surrendered his wallet and cell phone.

Apparently dissatisfied, Harris searched the man's person and the interior of his vehicle, then caught sight of a Dunkin' Donuts worker looking on and making a phone call, police said.

Guessing correctly that the worker was calling the law, Harris told the man, "Since he called the police, here's your stuff," and tossed the wallet and phone into the car, police said.

The cops reportedly found Harris walking nearby.
