New Lenox Woman Severely Injured in Joliet Semi-Truck Crash

A New Lenox woman was taken to a Joliet hospital following a horrific wreck at the intersection of Schweitzer Road and Route 53.

A late Thursday night collision left a New Lenox woman with severe head injuries and forced road closures for nine hours.

Charlotte White, 52, was transported from the scene of the crash to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, said Chief Mike Trafton.

White was heading west on Schweitzer Road and either failed to stop for the stop sign at Route 53 or stopped and pulled into the intersection and in front of a northbound tractor-trailer, police said.

The tractor-trailer plowed into White's Impala. White had to be extricated from the crumpled vehicle, police said.

The truck turned over and leaked diesel fuel. Trafton said the roads were closed from about midnight to 9 a.m. Friday while cleanup operations and accident reconstruction were conducted.

Isn't this the same intersection that a 16salad year old driver and a truck hit a couple months ago? Pray for a full recovery!

I have to visit my Doctors office on 53 by the speedway and some of these trucks have no reguard for the speed limit, even if you are in the slow lane they ride your rear bumper .Lately I have seen a lot of police presence in the area and I thank them for that. I know Illinois has a law that says you must be a certain distance away from the person in front of you, but on I 80 if you leave a car legnth you will be cut off by some jerk who is to good to get in line to exit.

There actually is not a law that says you have to be a certain distance away. All the law says is "...shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway." I've heard a couple general rules of thumb: 1 car length for every 10 mph, or 1 second for every 10 mph.

Ginger is correct. Same intersection. Very dangerous with the extra truck traffic now from the center point complex
