New Lenox Woman Severely Injured in Joliet Semi-Truck Crash

A New Lenox woman was taken to a Joliet hospital following a horrific wreck at the intersection of Schweitzer Road and Route 53.

A late Thursday night collision left a New Lenox woman with severe head injuries and forced road closures for nine hours.

Charlotte White, 52, was transported from the scene of the crash to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, said Chief Mike Trafton.

White was heading west on Schweitzer Road and either failed to stop for the stop sign at Route 53 or stopped and pulled into the intersection and in front of a northbound tractor-trailer, police said.

The tractor-trailer plowed into White's Impala. White had to be extricated from the crumpled vehicle, police said.

The truck turned over and leaked diesel fuel. Trafton said the roads were closed from about midnight to 9 a.m. Friday while cleanup operations and accident reconstruction were conducted.
