Mother Left Baby, 3 Other Kids Alone to Visit Boyfriend, Police Say

The four children are now in state custody and Stacy Sanchez has been charged with four counts of child endangerment, Joliet police said.

A Joliet woman who left her 9-year-old son in charge of her three other children -- the youngest a 5-month-old baby -- so she could visit her boyfriend was charged with child endangerment Wednesday, Joliet police said.

Officers checked the family's 101 S. Eastern Ave. home Wednesday morning after being alerted that the four children were alone, Joliet Police Capt. Tab Jensen said. The 9-year-old told police his mother had left him in charge about three hours earlier so she could see her boyfriend, Jensen said.

Mother Stacy M. Sanchez, 29, arrived while police were at her home and was arrested at about 9:30 a.m. on four counts of endangering the life/safety of a child, he said.

The four children were turned over to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, he said.

Sanchez was released on a recognizance bond pending her next court date on Jan. 24. The children remain in state custody, he said.
