Mob Gathered on Murder Anniversary Busted for Trespass

The group had gathered to commemorate the Aug. 3, 2009, death of Mark Bew in a gang-related shooting.

Eight men who congregated in front of an East Side gas station shouting "Vice Lord Bew Crew" and refusing to let patrons enter were arrested Saturday night by Joliet police, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

Police were called to the Citgo gas station at 379 S. Chicago St. at about 8:50 p.m. to break up the group, who were recognizing the death anniversary of Mark Bew, who was murdered on Aug. 3, 2009, in a gang-related shooting, Roechner said.

Police tried to get the men to disperse by telling them they'd be arrested under the city's anti-trespassing agreement signed by the station owner but alleged group ringleader Mister Tanzy, 20, 105 Nicholson, Joliet, chose instead to fight with the officers, who had to use a stun gun to subdue him, Roechner said.

Also arrested were Victor R. Mancinas, 20, 204 S. Joliet, Joliet; Eric M. Ervins, 19, 205 Wilcox, Joliet; Billy A. Wright Jr., 26, 427 Ohio, Joliet; Antonio Taylor, 28, 606 Henry, Joliet; Michael J. Frazier, 31, 504 S. Des Plaines, Joliet; Teren L.R. Frazier, 18, 1948 Marlboro Lane, Crest Hill; and Ross M. Xavier, 21, 195 Myrtle, Kankakee.

Each man was charged with mob action and criminal trespass to property. Additionally, Teren Frazier were charged with obstructing a peace officer and Tanzy was charged with resisting a peace officer.

Only Tanzy was taken to the Will County jail; the other men were released on $1,500 signature bonds, Roechner said.
