Two men armed with "Glock-style" guns robbed a barbershop employee and his customer of $100 and a gold chain in a Thursday night robbery near Ruby and Center streets, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.
The pair, described only as black men, approached the two victims at about 8:50 p.m. as they were leaving the Hall of Fame Barber Shop, 405 Ruby St., and walking toward their cars, Demick said.
The victims -- a 39-year-old man from Joliet and a 36-year-old man from Plainfield -- complied with a demand that they turn over their money and valuables, and the suspects then fled down Center Street, he said.
A similar robbery took place less than a month ago at the Brooks Barber & Beauty Shop, 317 E. Cass St.
In that case, two black men entered the business at about 8:40 p.m. on a Thursday night and demanded the customers and employees hand over their cash, phones and other items, police said. They also made off with 14 pairs of hair clippers valued at about $1,200.
It's not known if police suspect the same men may be responsible for both crimes.
