Man Hits Wife's Employee with Crowbar for Car Damage: Police

Andrew Behnke allegedly struck Victor Magana after Magana threatened Behnke's wife and damaged her car, Joliet police said.

A Joliet man struck his wife's employee with a crowbar after the employee threatened his wife and damaged her car on Christmas Eve, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Victor Magana, 22, of 1066 N. May St., Joliet, was working at the Taco Bell at 125 S. Larkin Ave. when he was informed by his manager that he was being transferred to a different store, Jensen said.

Magana reacted with anger to the news, threatening to harm the manager and then going outside to kick the woman's car, Jensen said.

The manager called her husband, Andrew D. Behnke, 25, 1119 Highland Ave., to tell him what happened, he said.

Behnke went to check the damage and then spotted Magana, who was a passenger in a passing car, he said. He chased the car, and forced it to the stop in the 1600 block of West Jefferson Street, Jensen said.

Armed with a crowbar, Behnke broke one of the car's headlights and struck Magana in the leg, he said.

Magana fled the scene and, after losing sight of Behnke, called the police.

Officers arrested Magana and charged him with criminal damage to a motor vehicle. He was released on a recognizance bond.

Behnke was also arrested and charged with aggravated battery, criminal damage to a motor vehicle and possession of cannabis. The latter charge stemmed from a small amount of marijuana found in Behnke's car, Jensen said.

Behnke is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $6,000 bond.
