Man Used Axe Body Spray Bottle to Stash Hidden Camera in Bathroom: Police

Camera was placed in the bathroom of a business in downtown Joliet.

A Naperville man faces two felony counts of unauthorized video recording and two misdemeanor counts of the same crime after allegedly trying to hide a video camera in a unisex bathroom at a downtown Joliet business.

John D. Reynolds, 27, of the 3200 block of Landore Drive, was arrested by Joliet police on a warrant Thursday, nearly four months after he allegedly used an Axe Body Spray bottle to try to conceal the camera and placed it inside the bathroom at a business in the 100 block of West Washington Street, police said.

Lt. Brian Dupuis said the hidden camera was discovered shortly after it was placed in the bathroom on March 25. The camera was sent to the Chicago Regional Computer Forensics Lab to be analyzed, he said.

While people can be seen in the video it captured, there was no nudity, police said.

Dupuis said the footage helped identify Reynolds, since he can be seen placing the camera in the bathroom.

"He had the camera running when he put it in there," Dupuis said.

Reynolds was released Thursday after posting 10 percent of his $40,000 bond, police said. He is due in Will County court on Aug. 12.
