Man Tries to Avoid Arrest by Fleeing Police

Ronald Neal, wanted on a criminal damage charge, refused to pull over and ended up driving his car off the road, Joliet police said.

A Rockdale man wanted on a charge that he tried to kick in a door made matters worse for himself early Wednesday by taking police on a high-speed chase, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

Police were initially called about Ronald D. Neal, 22, 176 Betula, Rockdale, shortly after midnight when he showed up at the 259 Ross St. home of a former girlfriend, with whom he has a 6-year-old child, Roechner said. He attempted kick in the front door while demanding that the residents come out and fight, he said.

By the time police arrived, Neal had already departed. Officers located his car a few blocks away and attempted to pull him over, Roechner said. Instead of complying, Neal hit the accelerator and sped through stop signs at Ross and Summit and Ross and Elizabeth before crashing onto a lawn, he said.

Neal then took off on foot, with officers finally taking him into custody in the 1100 block of Elizabeth.

Neal was charged with knowingly damaging property, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving on a suspended license, driving off the roadway, speeding and disregarding two stop signs. He is being held in the Will County jail.

According to jail records, Neal has accrued a long list of criminal charges since 2007, including theft, trespassing, violation of an order of protection, knowingly damaging property and three counts of domestic battery.
