Man Threatened to Kill Mother's Boyfriend during Fight, Police Say

Michael Craig is accused of pulling a gun when the victim tried to intervene in an argument Craig was having with his mother, Joliet police said.

A Joliet man who threatened his mother's boyfriend with a gun when the man attempted to intervene in a fight between mother and son was arrested early Thursday morning, Joliet police said.

Michael Craig, 26, was arrested at his 419 N. Bluff St. apartment at about 3:30 a.m. after his mother forced him to leave her home on Lois Place, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Craig had been visiting his mother, 47, when the pair began to argue, Jensen said. When the woman's boyfriend came into the room to see what the fight was about, Craig pulled a gun and threatened to kill the man, he said.

The man fled to another room and closed the door, while Craig's mother forced him to leave, he said.

Craig was charged only with aggravated assault because police could not find the gun he allegedly used while making the threat, Jensen said. Craig was also arrested on a warrant for failing to attend a court hearing on several traffic-related citations he received in June.

He is currently being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
