Man Steals Running Car and Crashes in the Snow, Police Say

Jeremiah Muhamad took off running after Joliet police saw him lose control of the stolen car while making a U-turn, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

A man who stole a Joliet woman's unattended car as it was warming up on Christmas night and then crashed it into a snow bank was arrested by Joliet police.

Jeremiah J. Muhamad, 26, of Aurora, is accused of making off with the car at about 9:50 p.m. while it was parked and running in the 300 block of Marble Street, near St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Sometime later, police officers patrolling near Bicentennial Park along the Des Plaines River observed a man overshooting a turn as he attempted to do a U-turn in the parking lot, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike a pile of snow, Jensen said.
