Man Shot in Leg by Unknown Assailant, Police Say

The victim was sitting on a wall in the 200 block of North Broadway when a man walked by, pulled a gun and started shooting, Joliet police said.

A Joliet man was shot in the leg Monday by an unknown assailant who fired a round of bullets at him and then fled on foot, Joliet Police Capt. Tab Jensen said.

The victim was sitting on a concrete wall at 225 N. Broadway St. at about 11:25 a.m. when he saw a man walk by, Jensen said. A short time later, the suspect returned, pulled a gun from his waistband and began shooting, he said.

When the victim saw him reaching for a gun, he took off on foot but was not fast enough to avoid being struck once, Jensen said.

Police recovered several spent rounds from the scene. The victim was treated at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Jensen said.
