Man Injured in Gang-Related Shooting: Police

Victim said he was walking his dog in the 500 block of Second Avenue when the shooting occurred.

A 28-year-old man was in stable condition after being shot in the chest Thursday in what police said was a gang-related shooting.

Cmdr. Al Roechner said the victim was walking his dog with two other people at around 5:30 p.m. when a white sedan approached them in the 500 block of Second Avenue.

The victim told police an occupant in the vehicle yelled out "Vicelords!" before the front- and backseat passengers opened fire. According to Roechner, the victim said both gunmen were Hispanic males.

The man was struck once in the upper chest near his collarbone, Roechner said. Police said the man was able to make it back to his home before being taken to Silver Cross Hospital.

Roechner said police searched the area where the shooting reportedly occurred but did not find any shell casings. Neighbors in the area told police they heard shots fired, but did not see anything, Roechner said.

The victim was listed in stable condition, according to Roechner.
