Man Sexually Assaulted 2 Young Girls, Joliet Police Say

Derek Walsh faces nine felony counts stemming from incidents that occurred in April, police said.

A Joliet man who allegedly had sex with two underage girls has been arrested on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Derek Walsh, 30, of 931 N. Broadway St., was arrested at the Will County Courthouse in Joliet Tuesday following his appearance at an unrelated hearing for theft charges, Joliet Police Detective Jeff German said.

Investigators began looking into Walsh after receiving two unrelated reports from parents alleging he had had sexual contact with their daughters in April, German said. Based on interviews with the victims and their families and discussions with the Will County State's Attorney's Office, two warrants for Walsh's arrest were issued Monday, he said.

German would not provide more details on either case, declining to say how old the girls are, if they knew each other or how Walsh met them.

In addition to four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, Walsh was also charged with four counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

He was arrested in February by the Rockdale Police Department on two counts of felony theft. That case is pending.
