Man Pushes Naked, Beaten Girlfriend Out of Home During Fight: Police

A "misplaced pacifier" is being blamed for provoking the violent argument, Joliet police said.

A lost baby pacifier provoked a heated fight Tuesday in which a Joliet man allegedly punched his live-in girlfriend, pushed her into a glass picture frame and locked her out of their home while she was naked, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

When Reggie L. Ratliff, 33, finally allowed the woman back into their 1007 Lois Place apartment, she fled into a bedroom, dressed and called police, Roechner said.

The fight took place at about 1 p.m. when Ratliff reportedly "went into a rage and attacked (the victim) because he was upset over a misplaced pacifier" used by the child they have together, he said.

The woman cut her left shoulder when she was pushed into a picture frame and when she scratched his chest, he responded by punching her, Roechner said. She was unclothed at the time of the fight because it was hot in their apartment, Roechner said.

Police took Ratliff into custody and charged him with aggravated domestic battery. He is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
